Why Use a Golf Travel Bag?

February 15, 2017 by Steve

Once the golf destination has been selected, the rooms booked and the tee times arranged; it’s time to figure out what and how to pack for the golf trip.

Some of the options include: using rental clubs, shipping your clubs ahead of you, or checking your golf travel bag with you on the plane.

If you’re traveling on business, for instance, and just hope to sneak in one round, rental clubs might suffice. But for most golfers, golf is hard enough without having to figure out a different set of clubs. Shipping clubs is a viable option. So is shipping your clothes but we never do that, do we? There’s a sense of security that comes with packing your bags and taking to the airport and putting them on the plane with you and then having them immediately upon arrival.

Now that you’ve decided using a golf travel bag is the best option. What is the best travel cover?

Leather Up!

December 1, 2015 by Steve

The Sun Mountain Leather Series golf bags and accessories are a nod to golf’s storied past, featuring styles and materials that speak to the richness and tradition of the game. These golf bags are not merely historical replicas; they are designed for the way golf is played today.

The Sun Mountain Leather Stand Golf Bag features a 9”, four-way top with full-length club dividers. The bag’s five pockets include a full-length clothing pocket, velour-lined valuables pocket and three accessory pockets. Combining tradition with technology, this classic leather golf bag features carbon-fiber legs, high strength-to-weight plastics and a built-in handle in the bag’s top for ease in picking the bag up and setting it down.

The Leather Golf Cart Bag, distinguished by its full-length belly pocket, is designed for cart use but at 4 ½ lbs. could just as easily be carried. The cart bag features a 9”, four-way top with full-length club dividers. The bag’s four pockets include an ample belly pocket, velour-lined valuables pocket and two accessory pockets. This bag also includes lift-assist handles integrated into the top and bottom of the bag for ease in lifting in and out of a car trunk.

The Leather Sunday bag is reminiscent of some of the earliest golf bags. By using lightweight, modern components, though, Sun Mountain was able to minimize weight to only 4 ¼ lbs., making it an easy carry.

Leather golf accessories in the series include matching leather hoods, and matching leather headcovers in either stripe or chevron pattern.

Should you carry your bag, push a cart, or ride in a cart?

November 11, 2015 by Steve

The current issue of Golf Today NW includes an interesting article from Dr. Harry G. Sese answering the question should I ride, carry, or push.

Dr. Sese recommends that for anyone suffering from a health condition that doesn’t allow them to elevate their heart rate, but allows them to continue to play golf, riding a cart is the best option.

If you’re a rider, then you need to be sure your gear matches with a riding cart. By ensuring that you have a sturdy, yet lightweight cart bag, (like Sun Mountain’s C-130 best-selling golf cart bag) you’ll be allowing yourself the peace of mind to know that you won’t be struggling to get your bag to the cart or from the cart to the car after a long round of golf.

Dr. Sese continues by saying that if you’re relying on a round of golf for your exercise, riding is not the way to go. He recommends instead that you walk and carry your clubs or use a golf push cart. The push cart is considered by Dr. Sese to be safer than carrying your bag, for those with neck, shoulder, and back pains.

Best Golf Apparel for Men and Women

October 22, 2015 by Steve

Sun Mountain Golf Apparel is designed with the golfer and the golf swing in mind. Men’s and women’s golf apparel in the Sun Mountain collection include technical sweaters, vests, and zippered pullovers as well as golf pants.

Form follows function in the design of Sun Mountain golf apparel with the primary concern being the comfort of the golfer and accommodating the golf swing.

The new half-zip Merino Wool Sweater looks sharp on and off the course and offers a nice thermal layer for those chilly rounds. Second Layer and ThermaFlex both offer an athletic/technical look in warm half-zip pullovers that stretch with the golf swing and dress up nicely for the 19th hole. Both of these thermal pullovers offer the warmth of fleece with a smoother look. And new for 2016, the Cascade Pullover is constructed with a proprietary fabric blend that delivers a classic golf look with superior functionality.

Sun Mountain golf pants offer waterproof protection along with finishing touches like belt loops and zippered-fly and pass-through pockets. These golf pants for men and women offer protection on the course while looking fine in the clubhouse.

Sun Mountain’s men’s and women’s golf apparel also includes vests that keep the arms free for the swing while warming the body. As with all of the offerings in the Sun Mountain thermal line, they offer warmth by themselves and layer with Sun Mountain rain jackets and wind jackets for rainy and blustery days.

Golf Bag Review: Sun Mountain versus OGIO, Nike, Callaway

September 16, 2015 by Steve

Golf forums are full of people asking each other to compare and contrast products. One recent golf cart bag review showed Sun Mountain versus OGIO, Sun Mountain versus Nike and Sun Mountain versus Callaway to name a few.

In this review the cart bags from Sun Mountain, OGIO and Nike all received the top grade of A+.

The review compared the bags based upon price, club dividers, storage and functionality, and features.

About the price of the Sun Mountain C-130 golf cart bag the review said, “The bag is almost a steal.”

About full-length divider, storage and functionality and features, the review said. “FIFTEEN (15) full length dividers and all the features you need. Love the molded handles on the top to help maneuver the bag.”

According to the review, the “bad” of the bag was comparatively small number of pockets and that the putter well isn’t fully separate. Upon review you see that the word ‘comparatively’ is key. The Nike bag was listed as having 19 pockets versus Sun Mountain C-130’s nine pockets. It’d be interesting to compare actual storage volume in these pockets. We’re confident you can fit everything you need and many, many things you don’t need in our C-130. After all, we borrowed the name from the cargo plane of the same name. And, the C-130 putter well is in fact a separate club division from the other 14 full-length dividers and positioned on the spine of the bag so easiest to access when the bag is on a cart.

ClubGlider Technology Expands to Luggage

August 26, 2015 by Steve

ClubGlider® revolutionized the golf travel bag with the introduction of extendable legs that support all of the weight. That same technology is now being applied to a line of wheeled-luggage that includes a suitcase and a carry-on. ClubGlider Suitcase offers the same ease of use as the golf travel bag thanks to the extendable leg that supports 100% of the weight and then simply retracts away for travel. The suitcase is constructed with the same highly durable, ballistic-style nylon as the ClubGlider Meridian golf travel bag. The ClubGlider Carry-On coordinates with the suitcase and is sized to fit in airplane overhead bins. Both pieces are available now at $349.99 for the suitcase and $239.99 for the carry-on.

July 5, 2011 by Steve

Micro-Cart™ from Sun Mountain is a new-look, four wheel walking cart that folds 25% smaller and weighs 20% less than leading golf push carts. Tipping the scales at the slight 13 lbs. and folding down to the scant 52 cubic inches, Micro-Cart is a very appropriate name. Its small folded footprint and its light weight make the cart easy to get in and out of a vehicle. Also, due to the patented four-wheel design, this push cart for golf has a low center of gravity which results in superior stability on the course. Micro-Cart comes with no assembly required and folds and unfolds in two easy motions. New for 2011, Micro-Cart comes standard with the E-Z Latch for hassle-free handle height adjustment.
